TJL’s Manufactured Joinery division recently completed an extensive two-year project for Virgin Hotel, Edinburgh, a landmark luxury hotel situated in the heart of the city. This project, spanning both new construction and the refurbishment of historical buildings, involved crafting thousands of items for 222 guest chambers, suites, and public spaces across five blocks of the hotel.

Working closely with TJL’s Core Fit-Out team, our joinery specialists produced both standard case goods and bespoke, visually impactful pieces that aligned with the hotel’s unique aesthetic vision. The team manufactured items ranging from bedroom furniture and bespoke bars to highly intricate, handcrafted doors, showcasing TJL’s capability to combine functionality with high-end design.

Guest Rooms
In all guest chambers, TJL manufactured standard items such as:

  • Vanity Units
  • LED-lit Mirrors placed above the vanities
  • Bedside tables
  • Wardrobes
  • Sink units
  • Sliding Barn Doors separating bedrooms from bathrooms
  • Bar Cart Shelves

Public Spaces

The hotel’s public spaces, including the Commons Club, Eve restaurant, and the Funny Library, required innovative and highly detailed joinery solutions:

  • Host Unit and entrance doors: Situated between the Commons Club and Eve, this piece was adorned with real leather inlays, soft-close drawers, and intricate mouldings that mirror one another.
  • Bi-fold Doors: Two different types of bespoke bi-fold doors were manufactured for the casual dining space within Eve. They feature flush slip bolts and are designed for smooth functionality and style.
  • Meeting Rooms: The team crafted credenza units and tables, blending American White Oak with custom stains to match the overall décor of the building.
  • Funny Library Bookcase: This massive 4m x 3m steel-supported bookcase was constructed from Poplar and stained to match existing panels, creating a visually impressive centrepiece.
  • Commons Club and Eve bars: Our team specialises in building bars, and these bespoke beauties for Eve and the Commons Club are no exception.
