We were commissioned to form a new British Airways “island” lounge at Edinburgh Airport and fit it out to a turnkey service.

The works comprised transforming an empty shell to form a new passenger lounge for the airline’s premium customers, with entire new partitions, floor, wall and ceiling finishes.  Our team created new toilet and kitchen facilities and coordinated the FF&E items.  Bespoke manufactured joinery pieces were created in our factory and installed on site.

One of the most complex challenges was the M&E works, which included the relocation and refurbishment of existing mechanical ceiling equipment and new mechanical and electrical installations.  We found the right sequence of working and had major success, even though the strip out of old and provision of new services came from out-with the site and across areas that were constantly part of the live airport.  The only times that we could access many of these areas was during nightshift, waiting for the last plane to land before starting and finishing before the first flights the next day.  We were constantly communicating and coordinating with the Airport Duty Managers as timings change in airports continuously.  The footfall volume was extreme as can be experienced anywhere, alongside high security restrictions.

All works were undertaken within a live airport environment.  Consequently, a phasing programme was devised to ensure that the sequencing of the works flowed in a logical manner enabling both high quality finishes to be achieved and disruption to staff, customers and operations to be minimised.
