Thomas Johnstone Ltd delivered bespoke joinery for Collector’s Hall in Glasgow, part of the historic Parish Halls building, now integrated into the AC Hotel by Marriott. Our in-house team combined precision craftsmanship and innovative design to produce high-quality, custom joinery that complements the building’s heritage character.
Project Overview – Collector’s Hall Joinery Glasgow
As part of the £100 million Love Loan development, TJL manufactured and installed a wide range of bespoke items for the 120-year-old, Grade A-listed Collector’s Hall. Key pieces included:

Front bar: tambour-fronted with oak hardwood detailing, centred in front of the back gantry.

Back gantry: American white oak veneered MDF and pine, complementing client-supplied stone and mirror features.

Feature entrances: six-panel arched doors with intricate detailing, crafted in American white oak.

Credenza, waiter station, and buffet counters: incorporating tambour accents, stone tops, and walnut MDF finishes.

Additional bespoke items: integrating client-supplied stone and LED features seamlessly with the timber work.
Every element was designed, manufactured, and assembled in our 30,000 sq. ft. joinery facility before final installation on site, ensuring precision, durability, and visual impact.
The completed joinery at Collector’s Hall combines careful craftsmanship, precise detailing, and high-quality materials, respecting the building’s heritage while delivering functional, visually striking elements for the AC Hotel by Marriott. Our team’s expertise ensured every piece—from bars and feature entrances to bespoke counters and partitions—was seamlessly integrated on site, creating a cohesive and sophisticated hospitality environment that enhances the guest experience.

We created several bespoke and standard items for the new AC Hotel Glasgow.
Our team crafted identical bedroom casegoods for each of the hotel’s 245 rooms, including headboards, TV units, wardrobes, wall mirrors and minibar units. All are made from poplar and stained with a walnut finish.

TJL’s Manufactured Joinery division also created several bespoke items for the hotel’s AC Lounge and neighbouring restaurant: Hazel. Elements include the circular seating surrounding the restaurant’s hazel tree centrepiece, café bar, buffet counter and tables, wall panelling and planters, meeting room tables and bespoke double doors, all manufactured using a mixture of oak and oak veneered MDF.
The reception pods, which welcome guests to the stylish hotel, were also crafted in our 30,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility. They are built from oak veneered MDF, clad in Corchia stone, and feature a beautiful offset patina brass shelf.
The hotel is a key element of the £100 million Love Loan Development, which involves transforming an entire block off Glasgow’s iconic George Square into a thriving leisure and residential neighbourhood that will, when complete, include bars, restaurants, and health and well-being facilities.
The AC Marriott Hotel opened in late 2023 and has been warmly welcomed by the city’s residents and visitors alike.
