Residing within a 4,500 sq. ft. former banking hall in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre, the Contini restaurant is a well-established and popular eatery. Deciding that the venue was ready for some modernisation, the owners took the decision to commission TJL to fully refurbish the restaurant and bar.
The stylish dining area now boasts new tables and mixed seating, with beautiful design features including patterned back soft grey leather chairs. A stunning new bar counter and gantry were also created and our team undertook high-quality decoration works throughout to complete the restaurant’s new look, including installing bold wallpaper.
Our scope of works included working in conjunction with Bellavista Wines to refurbish the Private Dining Room, creating an exclusive private dining space for up to 18 guests in the former vault of the banking hall. A soft refurbishment of the bathrooms and stairwell completed the transformation of the restaurant.
The project was completed to very tight timescales to minimise disruption as the restaurant was closed throughout the works, with our team working nightshifts to allow Contini to re-open sooner. There has already been excellent feedback about the décor (and the food) from critics and members of the public who have visited since the reopening, and the Continis were absolutely delighted with our works. We have subsequently been back to undertake further work and have completed refurbishment works to the other Contini properties too.
We have experienced many contractors in our time who have been disappointing but Gordon and his team are the total opposite, they are an absolute joy. They are patient, professional and I trust Gordon 100% which is one of the most important factors to me, trust and delivering on budget, those are the key things you need when working with a contractor.
I feel like Gordon is a member of our team, he is very charming, professional and solves problems as we go which is how I like to work. I get to have my input and the guys respect that and provide me with a solution to any of my issues which is brilliant.
The wider team are also brilliant, from Ian Paul who is very practical and doesn’t mince his words which I appreciate to John the painter who is like strawberries and cream, such a sweetie and can tackle anything – from painting the copper ceiling to hanging the wallpaper at George Street there is no job to big or difficult for him.
