Blue Monday 2026
Although Blue Monday is technically made up, there’s no denying that the January blues are very real for many people. There’s less daylight, and the weather is often cold, wet, and gloomy. After the excitement and relaxation of the holiday season, returning to work and everyday routines can feel overwhelming. All of these factors can affect our mental health and wellbeing.
At Thomas Johnstone, we recognise that mental health support is important all year round. That’s why we have more than 20 trained Mental Health First Aiders on our team who are available to listen, provide support, and guide colleagues toward additional resources whenever needed. We strive to create a workplace where mental health is openly discussed, understood, and supported at every stage.
This year, we’re also highlighting the valuable services offered by our charity partner, the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Alongside many in-person initiatives, SAMH provides Wellness Action Plans designed specifically for employees in various work environments. Whether you work remotely, in a hybrid model, or from an office, these plans help identify potential challenges and provide practical steps to maintain good mental health. Mental health is just as important as physical health and deserves attention throughout the year – not only during difficult seasons like January.
As we set goals and intentions for 2026, we encourage everyone to take a moment to create a personal Wellness Action Plan. Taking proactive steps to look after your mental wellbeing can make a big difference throughout the entire year. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, and at TJL, you’re never alone in facing challenges.
