Virgin Hotel, Edinburgh Gives Former Church Building New Lease of Life

Ahead of its opening later in the year, our work to create the Virgin Hotel, Edinburgh is continuing with building works to restore the former Cowgatehead Free Church into an events and wedding space.

Externally, stone work repairs are being carried out on various areas of the building including he removal and refurbishment of all parapet stones. These works are being carried out alongside works to refurbish the existing slate roof, areas of which were substantially damaged and allowing water to leak into the building.

Meanwhile, special scaffolding is being installed internally to let heavy plant access the inside of the church. This will facilitate the erection of new steel work which will form a walkway inside the events space: linking the main hotel’s new extension to the second floor and bridal suite of the former church building. Once complete, two large windows installed to the rear of the walkway will match the windows in the church and allow natural light into the bridge.

We can’t wait to see this spectacular space once it’s finished!
