We were the main contractor for a series of refurbishment projects at the Old Course Hotel, covering retail spaces, Herb’s Cafe, and the reception. Our internal Manufactured Joinery and Decorating divisions worked seamlessly with the rest of the team to coordinate bespoke furniture, premium finishes, and structural upgrades. This collaborative approach ensured every detail was executed to the highest standard while preserving the hotel’s historic character.

Herb’s Cafe

We delivered the transformation of the historic Eden Pavilion into a 52-cover Herb’s café. The 15-week programme included full soft refurbishment, bespoke joinery, marble flooring, and a new bi-fold serving hatch. Challenges included hidden structural issues, warped beams, and a load-bearing wall for the hatch, which we propped using a needle and acrow system. We reinforced joists, adapted ceilings, and resolved brickwork issues to meet the new layout. As a result, visitors will enjoy a functional, stylish café with improved accessibility and restored heritage features.

The Emporium Retail Store

We refurbished The Emporium retail store at Old Course Hotel, replacing the existing carpet with hardwood flooring and installing new partition walls to create a newspaper stand and additional storage. The suspended ceiling was removed to facilitate ventilation alterations, and a new ceiling was installed, with minor firestopping at wall penetrations. Bespoke joinery included a Pacific walnut console table, oak shelving with integrated LED lighting, a free-standing magazine rack, a till point with Silestone top, and display cabinets with new timber doors and linen-stripe wallpaper interiors. The refurbished store now offers a modern, functional layout with high-quality joinery and improved storage.

Pro Shop

We refurbished the existing Pro Shop at Old Course Hotel to create a more open and inviting retail space. Works included removing the bulkhead, pilasters, plinths, and storefront elements to allow new display windows. New hardwood flooring, doors, and partition walls were installed for storage and a bag drop area. A key challenge was working around structural beams while coordinating M&E and air-conditioning in a live hotel environment. We carefully planned the sequence of works and managed site access through fire exits. This allowed the bespoke joinery to be installed efficiently. Joinery included floor-to-ceiling retail display units, a new till point, lower-profile shelving, and wall displays. The space now benefits from a more open, functional retail space with bespoke joinery and storage solutions.

Reception

Finally, the hotel closed completely for four weeks, allowing us to carry out a full Reception refurbishment. We worked 24 hours a day, with day and night shifts, to refurbish the wooden flooring while other trades completed their tasks. Hoardings were decorated to maintain hotel standards during the works. Craftsmen applied gold leaf to the domed ceilings and stripped and repainted dado rails and skirtings. Walls were wallpapered, and floors sanded and revarnished. The result is a refreshed, elegant reception with improved finishes that celebrate the building’s original charm.

We delivered all projects on tight timelines, often running simultaneously across the hotel. Careful planning and coordination of trades, subcontractors, and our internal teams allowed overlapping works to proceed smoothly. This approach ensured high-quality finishes, precise joinery installation, and timely delivery. It demonstrates our ability to execute multiple complex projects efficiently within an active, historic hotel environment.
