Practical Completion: BT Alexander Bain House

Thomas Johnstone Ltd has completed a major internal fit-out project for BT Group as their flagship Glasgow office is officially opened.

The Specialist Fit-out contractor was delighted to act as the Main Contractor on the refurbishment of BT Group’s Alexander Bain Building in Glasgow. Working in partnership with Project Managers Thomas and Adamson, Michael Laird Architects, Structural Engineers WSP, and Mechanical and Electrical Services Consultants Wallace Whittle, TJL delivered the project to the high standards they are known for.

Located in Glasgow’s International Financial Services District (IFSD), BT Group’s new Hub will provide over 3,200m2 of improved office space as part of the company’s Better Workplace Programme: a commitment by the company to invest in their infrastructure and facilities to provide the best possible service to its customers.

TJL’s fit-out team refurbished 5 of the building’s 6 floors with works including replacement of existing flooring with new finishes and installing new ceiling-mounted services.  Completed to meet the architect’s proposal to place technology and communication at the heart of the refurbishment, TJL constructed several new solid and glazed partitions for kitchen areas and smart meeting rooms.  New M&E systems and fire barriers were installed on each level.  On the ground floor, a new café and staff restaurant were completed along with a redesigned entrance and reception area.

Furthermore, TJL’s in-house Manufactured Joinery division created several items for the renovation, including kitchen worktops, café counters and a new 4.4m reception desk. Their internal Decorating division completed decoration works throughout the building.

David Haddow, Joint Managing Director at TJL, remarked, “We are delighted to have facilitated BT’s investment in their Glasgow location and to have been part of the team to have made BT’s modern, sustainable vision for the building a reality.

Having now completed this major refurbishment with BT, we hope the building’s users and visitors will enjoy the refreshed space for years to come.”
