Hotel Indigo, York Place

Our Small Works division has successfully completed the ground floor refurbishment of the Hotel Indigo, Edinburgh.

Formed from three townhouses on York Place, the hotel has undergone a remarkable transformation.  The project, completed in a phased programme, saw our team reimagine the hotel’s entranceway, reception and lobby, bar and snug, and dining room. This transformation has set the stage for a new era at the Hotel Indigo Edinburgh.

Our team brought to life the unique Arts & Alchemy design narrative of Bell & Swift, transforming the hotel’s ground floor into three distinct areas: the Performer, the Photographer and the Chemist, and the Architect. Read more about this innovative design here.

The dining room, dedicated to the Architect, has undergone significant improvements.  Our team has decorated this space with an elegant powder blue and cream palette,  installed new herringbone wood flooring, vintage tiles, and upgraded counters in the breakfast buffet area.  The addition of new light fixtures and furnishings has added contrast and warmth to the room, enhancing its appeal.

The hotel reception and lobby lounge are the Performer’s domain: our team reconfigured the reception, moving the main check-in desk to install upholstered banquette seating in the lounge area.  A new reception desk was installed, along with new hardwood and tiled flooring.  Our team also redecorated these areas with a bold new colour scheme and artwork.

The reimagined bar and snug areas are reserved for the Photographer and the Chemist.  Evoking the Photographer’s dark room, our team reclad the bar in a striking red, standing out against the newly painted charcoal walls.  New booths and banquette seating were installed in these areas, along with new flooring and bespoke cabinetry.  We are thrilled with the final result and are confident guests will enjoy the renovated space for many years to come.
