Thomas Johnstone Ltd Completes Student Accommodation Fit-Out in Glasgow
Thomas Johnstone Ltd (TJL) has handed over a landmark 20-storey student accommodation building in Glasgow city centre, delivering the specialist fit-out on behalf of developer Chris Stewart Group. The project marks another key milestone within the transformative Love Loan neighbourhood.
Located just off George Square, the Martha Street Apartments provide 179 apartments and 275 bedrooms designed for high-quality student living. The scheme features a mix of studio and cluster rooms, alongside shared amenities such as a gym, cinema, study areas, and ground-level retail units. Setting a new standard for sustainable student accommodation, the building boasts lo-energy air conditioning and is fully electric and fossil fuel-free.
Over a 67-week programme, our team completed the full interior fit-out and M&E services installation across all 21 levels of the building. By combining programme precision with in-house craftsmanship, we created kitchens, wardrobes, desks, and bespoke communal furnishings in our specialist manufactured joinery workshop. This in-house capability ensured both quality and consistency at scale.
Reflecting on the project, Frank Foy, Project Director at Thomas Johnstone Ltd, remarked:
“This project demonstrates TJL’s ability to lead the team and deliver excellence in large-scale, fast-track complex fit-outs. Having worked on several projects with CSG, we’ve built a strong, collaborative relationship that enables us to consistently deliver high standards and, very importantly, on time. We’re proud to have handed over a building that provides high-quality student accommodation in the heart of Glasgow.”
The completion of the Martha Street Apartments contributes to Thomas Johnstone’s ongoing involvement in developing the Love Loan neighbourhood, a mixed-use regeneration scheme that blends restored heritage buildings with new developments. TJL has previously delivered the restoration of 280 George Street — now residential flats and home to Glasgow’s Flight Club — as well as bespoke joinery for the AC Hotel, Hazel restaurant, and the newly launched meetings and events space, The Collector’s Hall.
