Scottish Property Awards 2025 announced their nominees, and Thomas Johnstone were thrilled to see two of our past projects shortlisted for four different categories.

HFD Property Group and Forma Real Estate Funds were shortlisted for the Aurora building for Development of the Year in the Commercial category and the Net Zero Development of the Year Award. Our Manufactured Joinery division created several bespoke elements for the building’s reception area. These include the reception desk, towel and hair drying unit, a coffee unit, a ceiling feature made of European oak veneered MDF-flexi-ply and a staircase feature with slatted wall panels to create the appearance of the staircase being made of timber.

In addition, HarrisonStevens and Tartan Leisure were shortlisted for the Lost Shore Surf Resort in the category of Development of the Year as a Public Building and the Architectural Excellence Award, together with Oberlanders Architects. The Lost Shore Surf Resort is Europe’s largest inland surfing destination. Team TJL built the Wavegarden machine that creates the waves for surfing. It is now only the 10^th of its kind in the world. The machine is made of 52 pieces and each module moves a panel that is driven by an electro-mechanical system. This causes the water particles to move similarly to ocean waves. Fun fact – the system consumes less energy than a single chair lift at a ski resort!

Team TJL also fit out the main Hub buildings containing the resort’s wellness treatment studio, waterside bar and restaurants, and shopping spaces. In addition, our construction workers built seven ancillary buildings that are mainly plant-type. One of the seven buildings is a lookout tower for lifeguards.

Another project that TJL worked on was shortlisted for the Architectural Excellence Award – BDP for Neilston Learning Campus.  Our Small Works and Manufacturing Joinery divisions created and installed several bespoke joinery items for this project.
