Ruairidh’s apprenticeship journey here at TJL has been full of exciting opportunities which have seen him having various levels of responsibility in different job roles during his near four years with us. When Ruairidh completes his joinery apprenticeship this August, he will actually qualify with a broadened skillset beyond joinery thanks to his experience and the slightly unexpected route it has taken him.
“I started my Joinery Apprenticeship in 2015 and was working and training on the bench on the factory floor learning from my other TJ team members and soaking up as much knowledge as I could.”
Meet Finlay, our 3rd year Painting and Decorating apprentice who has been invested in TJL and our teams’ vision from the outset. As a proactive individual, Finlay has always adopted a forward thinking approach in his apprenticeship and is consistently looking to better himself through opportunities such as the advanced craft painting and decorating course, where he is also now in its third year.
“I want to be involved in as much as possible and have the best options available.”
With ‘People’ being the first of our four core values here at TJL, we look to employ individuals who connect with these principles and David - one of our fourth year joinery apprentices who works in our factory - is certainly one of them. David’s interest in joinery was sparked by his father who worked in the trade and his passion rubbed off from father to son.
“My dad has always been a joiner and growing up watching him work meant I had a basic level of understanding by the time it came to me deciding this was the path for me.”
Here at TJL we are always looking for apprentices who are eager to learn and willing to work and produce the exceptional quality which we are renowned for at Thomas Johnstone Ltd, and our first year joinery apprentice Reece definitely has these traits as highlighted in the video below.
As part of our involvement in Scottish Apprenticeship Week we have Connor and Mark, two of our Quantity Surveyors at St. Ninian’s High School Careers Event this afternoon providing insight and advice on our company and the apprenticeship and career opportunities we offer in the construction industry.
This event is allowing S3 pupils the chance to ask questions and engage with our team in a motivating and comfortable environment and we are very appreciative to be a part of such an excellent event!
Well done and thanks to St Ninian’s High School!
