TJL on track at the Glasgow Velodrome

TJL are proud to have played a key role in preparing Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games as specialist fit-out contractor for the new Emirates Arena, the National Indoor Sports Arena which includes the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome under Sir Robert McAlpine as Construction Managers.

The £2m works package involved doors, general joinery and manufacture to all areas and a variation to work with Ralph Schurmann and the German specialists to prepare and form the 250 metre long, 7 metre wide Velodrome and cycling track.

TJL also worked in the 6,500-seat indoor arena features a hydraulically operated 200m running track, jumping and throwing areas, a warm-up straight and several other sports halls and ancillary areas.

Another key venue and great success for Glasgow 2014 was the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre in the West End of the City. In preparation for the Commonwealth Games, Thomas Johnstone Ltd were appointed by Glasgow City Council to refurbish the Kelvingrove East Pavilion. This involved the construction of extensions to both ends of the existing building using traditional seasoned oak structural sections, with old fashioned leadwork and slating details before modern services installations and fit-out.
