Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2017: “I’m looking forward to being fully qualified and using the skills I’ve learned”
Continuing with our focus on current and former apprentices for Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2017, today we bring you the story of one of our current apprentices who already looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Ahmier Riezia is a 4th year apprentice with Thomas Johnstone Ltd. He is completing an apprenticeship to become a qualified bench hand joiner, and he says that his experience as an apprentice has been great.
Thank you to Laura from Macmillan Cancer Support for visiting our head office this morning (2nd March 2017) for a cheque presentation following our donation of half the proceeds from our 2016 Christmas raffle.
Our suppliers and sub-contractors kindly donated prizes and we raised an excellent £1,500 for charity. Macmillan Cancer Support and SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) - our two nominated charities - received £750 each.
As part of our focus on our current and former apprentices for Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2017, we are looking at the journeys and successes of our apprentices. Our first story is about a former apprentice who is now a rising star within our manufacturing division.
Michael Hillman, Manufacturing Manager at Thomas Johnstone Ltd, has had an incredible journey with the company.
Dyke McKenzie, Sales and Business Development Manager at Thomas Johnstone Ltd, will be running the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 28th of May 2017. He is undertaking the challenge to support two fantastic cancer charities - Cancer Research UK and MacMillan Cancer Support.
Company sponsors are most welcome and Dyke says that he will endeavor to get as many companies on his shirt, shorts and socks as possible. Should anyone want a loved one’s name embroidered for the journey then please get in touch with Dyke.
Any support would be much appreciated, and donations can be made through Dyke’s Virgin Money Giving fundraising page:
The TJL team would like to wish Dyke all the best with the challenge, and we also think he’ll need some good luck for surviving work the following day…
TJL have been developing their presence in Aberdeen with significant involvement in the development of a new Scottish headquarters for a Global Oil Company at Aberdeen International Business Park. Working in partnership with Faithful & Gould, Keppie Design and Tsunami Axis, TJL manufactured and fitted a range of bespoke components and furniture for this 330,000sq ft building.
